Has anyone grown and eaten Scorzonera?

This site claims that Scorzonera is a European root vegetable that is considered haute cuisine. It supposedly has an oyster-like flavor. With all the problems afflicting shellfish, oysters have a funny odor these days. When I was a kid, they tasted awesome, maybe the pollution has something to do with it. I guess this could be a good vegan substitute. Anybody?
