What would you buy if your size is sold out and only left is a size a bit smaller or really big?

It was my fault I waited to buy this hoodie online but I didn't think in one day my size would be sold out. The hoodie is 80% cotton and 20% polyester fleece. Will that shink? if this help: I useally wear a L and the only size left is M and XL. Also I am pretty good on taking care of my clothes when it comes to washing and such. Plz help asap.
