Could the word "woman" mean "woe of the man"?

The origin of the word "woman" is much more b than the suggestions already made. It has no connection with the word "woe". My Concise Oxford English Dictionary tells me that the word "woman" derives from Old English wifmon(n) meaning WIFE MAN, a formation peculiar to English, the ancient word being WIFE. As for the origin of WIFE, it's related to Old Saxon wif, Old High German wip and Old Norse vif. Its ultimate origin is unknown.
