Weaving in ends in crochet, think I've been doing it wrong?

Usually when I weave in the ends with crochet, knit or cross-stitch, I weave it in and then reverse it as I feel that way it will not come loose. With the crochet it is a little harder so I try to go down a couple of rows to try to hide the "tail" if it should decide to be seen.
